You’ve backed up the data, but do you trust where it’s stored?
Are you confident in the data center hosting your customers’ most valuable asset – their data? Chris Groot, vice president of sales and business development for MAX Backup, explains why MSPs should place their trust in the MAXfocus solution.
Take a moment to think about the things you trust in your personal or professional life. I’m talking about a no-doubt-in-your-mind kind of confidence that whoever, or whatever, tops your list will come through for you when the stakes are highest.
Perhaps you have a friend or colleague who makes the cut. Maybe it’s your still-going-strong car. We can probably all identify someone or something that isn’t trustworthy, and therefore inspires very little confidence (a Pew Research survey revealed that only 24 percent of Americans believe the federal government will almost always do what’s right).
With that framework in place, let’s narrow the scope of this post to online backup and the importance of safe and secure cloud-based storage. As a managed service provider (MSP), are you confident in the data center that hosts your customers’ most valuable asset – their data?
If you haven’t asked the question before, or at least recently, now is the time to do it.
“There is no question that the next 12-18 months will be critical for data centers,” writes Kelly Quinn, research manager for IDC’s Datacenter Trends and Strategies. “Data centers are the foundation for the new business models that are evolving across multiple industries and markets today.
“On top of this, data centers are becoming the first point of contact most companies have with their customers. As a result, critical IT trends in areas like mobility and social business are forcing IT managers to identify how things such as data gravity and variable computing can make or break the future of their business.”
From a compliance perspective alone, sensitivities around data security and privacy continue to escalate. And the threat of a natural disaster, however unlikely, always looms. Nine days into the New Year, a data center being built for Amazon caught fire.
The bottom line: Nobody wants to become the headline in the next news cycle.
“Historically, data centers have been viewed solely as service delivery centers in which cost and risk must be balanced,” Gartner Research Vice President Rakesh Kumar said in 2013. “Agility, a critical third variable, will become increasingly important in the future.”
Agility, according to Gartner, is “the speed at which the IT organization responds to business needs…”
Because business continuity is expected – and customers are willing to pay for it – MSPs can’t afford to doubt the data center they use. MAX Backup eliminates the doubt.
Our backup and disaster recovery (BDR) service is built on a belief that there isn’t a “one size fits all” solution for every MSP. Working with a BDR solution that you can tailor to meet specific requirements is priority.
MSPs that use MAX Backup gain two competitive advantages:
- Flexibility – You can store customer data in our data centers, or opt for a customized approach to handle your own storage.
- Choice – You have the option to store data in one of our six geographically dispersed facilities around the world (three apiece in the US and Europe).
It’s difficult to overstate the importance of those options. Larger MSPs that make a financial commitment to infrastructure and hardware may prefer to handle storage (perhaps it’s part of their value proposition). MSPs that don’t want to handle the storage, however, can utilize a top-tier, ultra-secure (SSAE 16 SOC-1 Type II) data center.
Considering how much the needs of your customers vary, you need flexibility and freedom to choose. How else can you be confident that your customers are receiving the best service possible?
