Seven Things You Can Do to Increase Your Marketing Reach Today

Scott Calonico

You might be the most highly decorated Microsoft Professional ever. You know the ins and outs of every operating system from DOS all the way up to Windows 7. You eat Linux installations for breakfast and have an Apple every day at lunch.

And yet, your MSP or IT service still isn't growing.

Unfortunately, maintaining a successful MSP isn't just about the technical side of things. You also need to know how to get the word out about your services

But, you say, you're busy running a business.

You don't have time to do any marketing.

Yes you do.

Here are seven simple things you can get started on RIGHT NOW to increase your marketing reach and get yourself out in front of new customers. Don't have enough time to do all seven today? Try one or two this week, and then move on to the others.

Set up a Facebook Page

Setting up a Facebook Page is quick, painless and a great way to get yourself started in social networking. Even better, if you're already on Facebook (and who isn't), you're already halfway there. Once your Facebook Page is setup, let all of your Facebook friends know and you'll soon be swimming with people eyeballing your new Facebook presence.

Set up a Twitter Account

Twitter takes a bit more time to get used to, what with all the RT @ and #hashtag lingo but once you've got it down you'll find Twitter a great way to meet others in your networking zone.

Sign Up for Google Alerts

If you've got a gmail address or Google account, setting up a Google Alert is as easy as filling in a field and selecting a few drop boxes. Use Google Alerts to do a search for your business to see what people are saying about you, to keep an eye on competitors, or find out other goings on in your local area.

Put Up a Blog Post

Don't have blogging software? Go to Wordpress.com or Blogger and get your own blog. Signing up is free and only takes a few minutes. Blog about what's happening with your business. Let your customers and social network know what you're up to. You'll be surprised who might be interested.

Set Up a Web Page

Even if you know the ins and outs of Apache server configuration and MySQL optimizing for your clients, you might have put off setting up a web page because you don't think you have the time. Wrong. You do. It's never been easier to setup a rich, social network ready web site. Many hosting providers have the option to setup a Wordpress or Drupal based site automatically in your hosting space. All you have to do is pick a theme and add some content.

Find Your Keywords

Take a look at the Google Adwords Keywords Tool to see the keywords that are most relevant to your business. This will show you the keywords and phrases that users are using to search for goods and services. Download a list of the most popular keywords for your business and use this as a basis for writing optimized blog posts to attract more people to your website.

Register in Google Maps

If you have a physical office location, registering with Google Maps is one of the easiest and best things you can do to get your business noticed on the web.

By implementing some of these marketing strategies, either separately or in combination with each other, you can help reach out to new potential customers and clients, even while you're knee deep in CAT-6 cables and RAID arrays.
