Safeguard your data with strong encryption

Secure cloud-first backups offer an efficient way to keep a copy of your data off-site, helping you fulfill the “3-2-1” industry best practice data protection strategy (three copies of your data, on two types of media, one of them off-site). But not all clouds are created equal. Some backup vendors send your data to a large public cloud provider, and others put the burden on you to select—and pay for—your own cloud service. N‑able Backup includes storage in our global private cloud in the base price, and we realize fully that when sending backup data off-site, security is critical.

That’s why our remote data centers are designed to offer safety, reliability, and availability, no matter where in the world you operate. Certifications include HIPAA, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and others unique to specific regions. For example, the data center in France includes compliance with the French Ministry of Health’s Shared Healthcare Information Systems Agency (ASIP) via a health data agreement (HDA).

Global data center chart

With N‑able Backup, you can keep your customers’ data in-region to meet regulatory data locality requirements and business preferences, in your choice of 30 data centers across 17 countries and four continents.

N‑able Backup is designed to secure your backups using AES 256-bit encryption. Additionally, backups are sent via a TLS 1.2 connection to help safeguard privacy and data integrity. Finally, backup data is stored in data centers with physical security safeguards in place.

We partner with leading providers of data centers, offering 24/7 security, including biometric hand geometry readers for every door and server cage. CCTV digital cameras cover the entire data center, with detailed surveillance and audit logs. Data centers are equipped with uninterruptable power supplies and backup systems including diesel generators. Fire protection systems are multizone, dry-piped, double-interlocked, and pre-actioned. Very early smoke detection and alarm (VESDA) systems are used.

Features

  • Globally distributed data centers: We use multiple ISO-certified data centers located globally.
  • Private encryption key: If you choose private-key encryption, only the key holder can recover and access backup data, which helps eliminate unauthorized access.
  • End-to-end encryption: Backups are encrypted on-site, then transferred over one-way TLS 1.2 connections and stored encrypted in the cloud. Backup data is only decrypted during a recovery at the business’ site.
  • Advanced Encryption Standards (AES): Backup data is protected using AES 256-bit encryption.

While N‑able Backup stores backups for Microsoft 365 in the designated Storage Locations, in some cases, backup processing on its way to storage may occur in a country other than the Storage Location. Details are available here.
