When I owned my managed services provider (MSP), I made a special point to thank my clients for their business every year. This came in the form of holiday cards and gifts since it’s a simple way to say thank you at the end of the year. Showing customer appreciation is crucial in the MSP business because it helps build long-term customer relationships.
So that covers the why behind customer gift giving, but what about why now? Well, it’s the end of the year, so it’s a perfect time to say thank you to customers for their loyalty and business. The holiday season also makes exchanging gifts a normal activity around this time of year—so it won’t look like you’re trying to get something from them in return.

In the end, showing appreciation to your customers is an appropriate activity that can foster long-term business relationships. Even though I’m no longer an MSP, I still have old customers I exchange holiday cards with every year. The lifetime value of a customer—even one with a small account—is hard to quantify. It’s best to nurture them all as they grow and continue to need more of your services.
