marketing signpostsAre you planning to take your MSP business to the next level in 2013? With the inevitable holiday-season slowdown underway, now is the perfect moment to set aside some time to think about your MSP strategies for next year.

A good starting point is to think about the marketing methods you have used over the past year or two and make an honest assessment of their success. Then, as a starting point for your 2013 strategy, combine a repeat of your successful tactics with a few brand new ideas.

To get your creative juices flowing, here are a few simple marketing ideas that may get your business booming in 2013. If you’ve not tried them all before, perhaps it’s time to give them a go.

Online Marketing

Online marketing can mean many things nowadays, and not just paying Google for sponsored search results (although there’s nothing to say that this can’t be a successful strategy).

Social networking now plays a huge part in business marketing, so if you’ve been ignoring Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, now’s the time to get up to speed. Targeted adverts on Facebook, aimed at those in your geographical area, are just one of many options.

Referral Schemes

Your current clients can be a great source of new business.

If you know your clients are delighted with your services, perhaps you should encourage them to spread the word with discounts or other enticements?

When you find yourself in meetings as the result of strong recommendations, you’ll find closing deals much more straightforward.

Business Networking

While some business people find organized networking events false or distasteful, these groups continue to operate for a simple reason: they work.

Even if you, personally, don’t like the idea of attending a networking breakfast or similar event, perhaps a member of your team could go along and represent your MSP business. A good “elevator pitch” may be all it takes to generate some more support contracts.

Traditional Advertising

There is no shortage of options when it comes to promoting your business with traditional adverts. Local papers, trade magazines, billboards and radio stations are just the start. This style of advertising can be extremely cheap or terrifyingly expensive, but some form of traditional promotion is sure to work for you. If you’ve tried something this year that hasn’t worked, maybe next year you’ll find a method that does.

Guerilla Marketing

If you want to be a bit different, maybe it’s worth considering some guerilla marketing angles? Perhaps a video or blog post that can go viral, or something inventive that causes a stir in your target market or local area? The only limit’s your imagination – and this style of marketing needn’t cost very much either.

Hopefully these ideas will give you some flashes of inspiration, and motivate you to make a start on your 2013 marketing strategy. Regardless of how successful 2012 has been, marketing shouldn’t be ignored for next year. Complacency won’t help you grow your business.
