When looking for affordable and effective IT Marketing methods to use for attracting new clients to your computer consulting business, it's hard to ignore the potential that cold-calling can have for bringing in new clients quickly.
I know that cold-calling isn't everyone's favorite method of finding new clients. And if you feel it's not for you, I can definitely relate. Before I understood how to do it properly, it absolutely terrified me.
But the fact is, there is no sales method that has the potential to work faster in bringing in new business than cold-calling.
Think about it for a second. If you knew how to make an effective cold-call and picked up the phone right now to contact local small businesses... you could potentially have several meetings lined up in the next few hours.
If you were to head out this morning and knock on the doors of your neighborhood businesses, you could actually have new clients before lunchtime. And it wouldn't cost you a dime!
It all comes down to contacting enough potential clients and knowing the proper techniques for making them receptive to hearing you out.
Once I learned how to cold-call properly and saw for myself how effective it was, it became my go-to method for picking up new business when I needed to get things growing FAST!
If you're willing to give it a shot yourself, the rewards awaiting you will be well worth the effort.
Considering that you only need about four clients to have a full-time income as an Independent Computer Consultant, cold-calling has the potential for giving you your complete client base in a matter of days.
The things you'll essentially need prior to making an effective cold-calling campaign are simply a list of potential clients and a good script to work from.
Getting a list of highly targeted prospective customers can be quite pricey, and there are plenty of reputable providers that will be glad to help you out... for a price. But you don't need to spend much money at all, as long as you're willing to spend a bit more time collecting your prospecting information.
You can visit a website such as manta.com, who provides free prospecting lists. However, you cannot export the lists, so the copy-and-paste process of collecting the information can be quite time consuming.
Another free technique that works great is simply doing a Google search for the industry you're targeting, plus your zip code. For example: "law firm 10010". Assuming you live in a fairly populated area, you should easily get listings of hundreds of potential clients to call, complete with contact names, complete addresses and phone numbers (plus, you'll get a pretty good idea of how attractive the company might be as a client).
Putting your script together might be a challenge if you've never done any selling before... and it's a bit larger of a subject than can be covered in a short article.
However, I can tell you that the primary focus of your msp cold calling script MUST be to focus exclusively on your prospects wants and needs. Ask them about them. Find out what their pain is and what problems they want resolved. Do NOT go on and on about how great of a computer consultant you are. Don't be offended, but no one cares.
People want to talk about themselves. Ask questions about their environment, let them open up and they'll give you the queues about what their needs are and how you can help them.
Cold calling as an IT Marketing technique can be scary if you've never attempted it before. But take it from a person who's been doing it very successfully for many years. Allow yourself to break out of your comfort zone for just a little bit and you'll find you're capable of a whole lot more than you might realize. And the rewards are truly worthy of the challenge.
